Our Coaches

Head Coach – John Kealy


Profile – I have been a Head Coach for Asgard since I opened its doors in 1999 with two other friends who formed a committee. I have been a competitive swimmer for 30 years taking part in World Championships, Deaflympics, European Championships in New Zealand, Denmark, Lithuania, Sweden, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Taipei, Italy, Greece, Australia as well as Club, Regional and National level while training with Paragon, St. Pauls and Aer Lingus. I gained three world records which I still hold and 47 gold medals and numerous of Irish Master Records. Currently I still swim socially and take part in Open Water Swimming and Waterpolo. While I was training, I coached the Swedish & Austrian Deaflympics Swim Team prior to their championships. I took part in full time training programmes abroad in Arizona, Germany and Fort Lauderdale Aquatics in Miami. I have received an award for The Irish Indpendent Sports star of the Week and An Award from the Irish Deaf Sports Association for ‘Best Sporting Achievement’ in the last 40 years.

Since Asgard opened its doors I have worked with numerous of coaches around Ireland and got involved in different training programmes such as Level 1, 2 & 3 Senior Coaching, Child & Adult Learn to Swim, Water Safety and High Performance to name a few. I am a member of the Leinster Technical Committee working alongside with other coaches around the country.


Assistant Coach – Remigijus (Remi) Baltrusaitis


Profile – Remi Baltrusaitis has been coaching at Asgard Swimming Club since January 2016.

Remi is originally from Lithuania but has lived in Wicklow Town for 16 years. Swimming from a very early age, Remi took part in the Lithuanian Swimming Championships representing his hometown of Marjiampole. He swam in the Masters, The Torpedo’s, in his hometown also. Since moving to Wicklow Remi has been a very active member in Wicklow Swimming Club, where during the swimming season, competes in their weekly competitions. He also enjoys taking part in open sea swims. This has led to him coaching within the Wicklow Club. He is Head Coach for the Blue Dolphins Special Olympics Team which he is very passionate about.

He holds many qualifications including Level 1 Aquatics, Level 1 Coaching and Level 2 Coaching.
